Starboard floor replacement piece cut and fit. Deck cut away and grinder work to flatten area to accept 3/4 plywood. Port side jigsaw puzzle cover in place. Before fitting new piece just an open area which needed grinding. The gas fill tube that we will use is the forward most. We are keeping the aft pipe in place in case it has to be used in the future if the forward pipe failed. Not likely but why not plan ahead. We capped the pipe on the top end by the fill. We then attached a hose segment with pressure check apparatus and snifter valve which we pressurized to about 3 psi. After 15 minutes there was no drop in pressure so the fill pipe which has about six welds is not compromised and will not leak fuel. This is a little complex test but has to be done because switching to the other fill pipe is a major task once the deck is sealed.

1979 MakoWe are starting another complete restoration for Tony Daidone on another 1979 23 foot Mako. This boat is in very good shape and lived its entire old life on Lake Michigan. Having lived in only fresh water makes things a lot easier. There is no salt water corrosion of parts and the boat never had bottom paint on it. It is coming along real good and we will be posting lots of new photos of the work in progress very shortly. Archives
