Babylon Boat Works ("BBW") is a unique operation that came together after Captain Al Lorenzetti, with the help of many friends, completely restored his 1979 23 foot Mako fishing boat. George Yurcak provided the industrial space needed for the project, as well as invaluable technical background. The restoration went so well, that soon boat owners wanted their own beloved boats to be restored and rebuilt. Today, Babylon Boat Works is not only a working shop specializing in classic restoration and marine fabrication, it is also the hottest new reality show on the web. Each day, viewers can watch the live action on the BBW webcam as the crew faces challenges arising as they restore boats to their former glory. Daily updates from Capt. Al and crew highlight the day's progress and struggles.  Viewers will find Babylon Boat Works entertaining as well as educational.

How it all started

The original Babylon Boat Works complete restoration. Captain Al Lorenzetti's 1979 23 foot Mako center console. This was a major undertaking. This boat had lots of use and was in sorry condition. We replaced the two old fuel tanks with one new 120 gallon tank. The soft water soaked deck was removed. All drain tubes for hatch areas were replaced. All the old wet foam was removed and replaced with 3 pound foam. A new deck was constructed and glassed into place. The transom was gutted and reconfigured with higher outboard edges and narrower motor cut and filled with Seacast and then fiber glassed for functionality and strength. All hardware and plumbing was replaced with the newest innovative components. All original wiring was replaced with all new switches and terminals. New Lenco trim tabs were installed. A new high tech rub rail was installed. A live well system with full plumbing was installed. The original teak was refinished to furniture like condition. The forward raised casting platform was soft and was completely refurbished and rebuilt and a new pulpit was constructed with teak obtained from the battleship North Carolina. The entire boat was painted with Awl Grip and all horizontal surfaces finished with non-skid. New Lowrance electronics were installed as was a new Mercury OptiMax engine with all new controls and wiring harnesses. The finished product is unique and very functional and beautiful. It is a working boat and is now running charters.

At Babylon Boat Works we only work with the best craftsmen in the marine trade. Whether it be fiberglass work, metal fabrication, starboard cutting and design or any other aspect of boat building or reconstruction, we only use the best.
In this video Captain Al Lorenzetti and George Yurcak discuss how Babylon Boat Works came together after the original restoration of the "Skimmer" .
